Goofus: ‘<X> is open source! Get involved, write a patch yourself! It’s easy, isn’t it? No, you don’t understand our codebase, rewrite everything!’

Gallant: ‘Hey, this is useful feedback. Mind if I add it to the set of issues we’re tracking? And is it okay — only if you have time/energy — if I ask a few questions to see where you’re coming from?'

Shoot for the moon. If you miss, reload and fire again. The moon must be stopped at all costs.

@namazso @malwaretech @GossiTheDog you know what I have little patience for as I get more experience in infosec? Blaming users for failing to understand the implications of obscure, poorly understood options.

OH: "Nobody has spent more on a dead bird this Thanksgiving than Elon Musk."

The fact that Russia is choosing to use its expensive, dwindling and hard to replenish supplies of precision-guided missiles to degrade and destroy the Ukrainian energy grid is a very good indication that they are not able to do so with (cheaper) cyber attacks.

Yet another reminder of the practical limitations of offensive cyber, or, at least, the limitations of Russian ability to conduct strategic offensive cyber attacks

An imperative exists for urgent action to expand and improve the West’s defence industrial base. Good, strategic and courageous decisions are needed now in the West. We may almost be out of time to make them.

The upper house of the parliament of Ireland, Seanad Éireann, recognized the Holodomor (inflicting death by starvation) of 1932-33 as a genocide on the Ukrainian people.

This man-made famine was inflicted on the Ukrainian people by the deliberate policies of the totalitarian Stalinist regime which resulted in millions of innocent lives being lost.

Good morning. Day 2 of the most recent Kyiv blackout. Day 274 of the war. There is no electricity, no heating, no water. Outside temperature is around freezing. The apartment is still warm from the previous days. We will see how long it lasts. We have blankets, sleeping bags, 1/

Today was movie day in my election integrity class. We deconstructed Pillow Guy and other "stop the steal" videos.

It really struck me how deep a background you need to reliably spot the faulty logic or outright fabrications. The students did fine, but if you're predisposed to believe the elections were rigged, these videos provide easy comfort food.

Those who follow me on The Bad Place have heard me repeat this a thousand times, But once more won't hurt.

Election security is incredibly complex, full of seemingly impossible tradeoffs. But disinformation about supposed "rigged" elections is perhaps the most serious threat to election integrity today,

The best defense is to learn how elections actualy work! Becoming a poll worker is a great way to do that

Also, this National Academies study is a terrific resource:

Also, any serious discussion of election security has to grapple with two simultaneous realities:

- there's no evidence that any US election outcome has ever been altered by hacking

- there are real, exploitable vulnerabilities in many parts of our election infrastructure,

I've written a bit on what these vulnerabilities are and how to fix them, See, e.g., this brief article:

Alright, not sure how far I’ll get, but I’m hoping to dive into more Apple II maintenance.

I’m going to start by verifying that the hardware is still working the same as I left it a few weeks ago.

The current Fediverse seems to rely on obscurity for defense from troll farms/IT cells. If a nationstate wants to set up thousands of fake Mastodon accounts - with only a few per instance - run smartly, there's no one who can find/stop them. The current defense is "attackers go after FB/Twitter/etc instead."

Long-term, if Mastodon becomes mainstream, it may need semi-centralized services that take in data from most instances to stop troll farms/IT cells of this sort (akin to email spam filters)
