I have the feeling that the role of Data Scientist is slowly disappearing from the job market, due to the appearance of more specialized roles such as Data Engineer, ML Engineer, MLOps, et al.

I was thinking that maybe the reason is that the part that remains after removing all those responsibilities that are now in hands of more specialized teams, is Science, i.e., applying the scientific model to extract knowledge from data.

And Science might be incompatible with the hype-based, release-early-without-thinking and confirmation-bias-prone environment that is so popular in most of the companies I happen to know.
