All this balloon chatter reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad joked about owning an "official weather balloon". There was some catalog that came to the house that had them. So we got him one for his birthday, inflated it to 5 ft or so- then promptly popped it when it caught on a bush. I'd completely forgotten about that until now.
