Wowza, another major "time to first X" (TTFX) major improvement coming from the changes to #julialang's precompilation. I can't wait for https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/pull/47184 to merge!
Really cool feature of #julialang #sciml in the Dec edition of AIAA's Aerospace America magazine for control of unmanned aerial systems on embedded hardware. Great work by AFRL!
A midsized black hole in a dwarf galaxy a million light-years away announced its presence to astronomers by violently ripping apart a star. #Space #Astronomy #SciComm #BlackHole https://www.space.com/black-hole-announces-itself-star-death-tidal-disruption-event
Hey Mastadon folks, you're getting early word that we're soft launching a new documentation for SciML. Take a look at it here: https://docs.sciml.ai/Overview/stable/ . It's not complete yet, but it's getting close. The goal is to cover the whole #SciML organization in one comprehensive searchable documentation set. This gives a lot more breathing room to the individual tools. Lots of new tutorials are being developed.
I just realized that DifferentialEquations.jl works with the type I provide; not only can I solve matrix differential equations, but also tensor differential equations, tensor network differential equations etc. etc. ...! Seems like a feature from the creation of the library, I should have read the documentation better I guess ;) The possibilities with symbolics, AD, ... are impressive and I need to sleep over it. Can one formulate dmrg as a differential equation? #JuliaLang #Programming
@fi Search seem pretty weak. My search results only return hashtags and users, not the text of toots.
@valleyforge And, oddly enough, it had noting to do with captioned pictures shared on social media. Not directly, anyway.
@worldsendless Agree it should be easier to find feeds, and that RSS (and Atom) is essential. Newsblur is a reader that’s easy to get started with and works well, with synchronized web and phone interfaces.
@lucifargundam
What if she grows up to be the next Hilter? Not such a good thing now, was it?
@Co Why do you have to restart your PC?
@zleap You might try putting some xset commands in .xinitrc in your home directory. Look at man xset if you are not familiar with it.
@freemo It’s quite handsome. Good use of type as design.
@mathlover With a passion. Total garbage.
@2ck Well, Maxwell’s equations don’t explain the quantized nature of radiation absorption and emission, and stuff like that. That’s why quantum mechanics was invented. First big step was by Einstein in 1905, with his paper on the photoelectric effect (that he got the Nobel prize for).
@2ck The emitted photon is the same energy as the absorbed one only for single-photon absorption. An atom can absorb multiple photons, and then emit photons of any energy up to the sum of all the energies in the absorbed photons. So the emission spectrum is actually continuous. For molecules, there are various vibrational modes as well, and energy in those can be fed into translational energy, raising the temperature of the material.
@2ck The light may not get emitted with the same frequency. If it did, there would be no greenhouse effect. CO2 leads to global warming because sunlight absorbed in the visible can be shifted to the infrared, which is blocked on the way out by the atmosphere. (It’s more complicated, but that’s the basic mechanism.)
