It’s impossible to invoke my hiccup cure while also reading Mastodon. It requires absolute concentration. (Hiccups cured after locking phone for about a minute.)

@lorihc Curious about your cure -- only because I like to keep a few in my brain.

@KayJanes @lorihc Yes, Lori, unless it’s proprietary, please share. I have several cures which are “often” effective, but never a sure thing.

@petep44 @KayJanes My method was taught to me by a roommate years ago and involves focusing on the muscles around the diaphragm: they’re jumping up, and you want to push them back down and still them. Breathe out, push down. Repeat for 30-60 seconds, and they’ll chill.

@lorihc

I can stop hiccuping by concentrating on it, but it does take 100% concentration. I can't even let my mind drift.

Is that what you're doing?

@billyjoebowers Yeah, I’m focusing on calming the spasming diaphragm, pushing it down and stilling it. It requires concentration, but only takes a minute or so if you can focus.

@lorihc

It's really the most consistent way, the only way that works for me besides shear luck.

@lorihc

Yeah, thinking about a naked man on a white horse requires concentration. What? That's not your cure? Works for me!😂
