When I started on Mastodon, people would advise me to “only Boost posts.” Since there’s no algorithm that places a value on Favorites, “only Boosts have value.”

I disagree completely.

When people Favorite my posts, they unwittingly introduce themselves to me. I have discovered some very interesting people that I may not have if they didn’t Favorite my posts.

For those that have adopted App Intents in their apps, or are considering it: What are the main frustrations / limitations you have hit? FB numbers are great, but in this case not required!

I hope that there is still room for idealists, who think we can and should still strive for a government for the people and by the people. Real change is slow and generational, it isn't flashy, it's hard work.

I don't know exactly how to celebrate my country right now, but I'll raise my glass repeatedly to the people who are still trying when it feels hopeless, to the true patriots who fight for human rights and not corporate greed.

There is goodness in the world, even if it doesn't always feel like it, so I'll celebrate courageous acts of kindness, people who defend those who cannot defend themselves, people who stand up when others tell them to sit down, thank you for your service.

America was founded on the promise of freedom and equal rights for all.

In reality, this has always been unevenly applied. Freedom is a constant battle, and everyone’s rights are FAR from equal.

The most American thing we can do is to keep pushing hard for freedom, liberty, and truly equal rights for EVERYONE.

You should have seen his face.
He just gave a soft „oh“ and there was SO MUCH compassion in his face.

42 years ago today, the NYT published its first coverage of what would be the AIDS epidemic. It would be difficult to overstate the centrality of And the Band Played On to my personal and professional development in health politics and public health research. I wish we’d learned more lessons from this period, but am grateful to be able to teach this important but painful history to my students.

For those of you with an Apple Watch Ultra: you have a water temperature sensor on your wrist and it’s easy to use once you know a little trick.

The Depth app will take a reading if you go deeper than 3 ft. The length of the “dive” doesn’t matter.

(In my swim watch face, I have the Depth complication setup in the upper right corner.)

After I end an ocean swim, I do quick reading and it gets recorded in the Health app. (Today was a little chilly!)
