:tor: node stats

@absturztaube I wish I had enough bandwidth to host a node...

re: :tor: node stats

@lucifargundam you don't need a lot of bandwidth to host a node tho

re: :tor: node stats

@absturztaube @lucifargundam tell that the cops kicking in your door for running a tor node

re: :tor: node stats

@methyltheobromine @lucifargundam :blobcatshrug: well i'm gonna call up the law guy from digiges ch

re: :tor: node stats

@methyltheobromine @lucifargundam also, running the tor node is not illegal. stuff that might go through it can be tho. and that only applies to exit nodes

re: :tor: node stats

@absturztaube @lucifargundam @methyltheobromine I think the people from the TOR Project can sign you a document that claims that you are running a relay node in case you have legal troubles, though I'm not sure if that applies only for the US.

But as you say, only exit nodes can have legal problems since they are the ones doing the connection to whatever is at the other side, if someone decides to connect or do something troublesome.

re: :tor: node stats

@enigmatico @lucifargundam @methyltheobromine the TOR community does that too, which is better because of it applying to your countries law

re: :tor: node stats

@enigmatico @lucifargundam @methyltheobromine but yes, that stuff mostly only gets important if you run an exit. middle and entry are way less likely to cause you legal troubles unless your country does prohibit tor specifically

re: :tor: node stats

@enigmatico @lucifargundam @methyltheobromine (and i'm not aware of a country that does that. at least not in europe)

Another way to help the network is by donating to a local org which already runs some nodes. They can then buy better hardware, pay the rent for the location, etc. and have already a working setup, are prepared for legal actions, and so on :)

My current ISP enforces a monthly (not pay period) data cap; additionally, there are +/- 22 devices connected at most hours of every day- mostly streaming if not downloading.

After I move, I plan on limiting it to 2 devices (max) streaming.
