Driving stick isn't hard, just taxing. There's additional steps involved for otherwise most-basic(from auto trans pov) tasks.

I would only get a stick if I wanted to race or loved the rest of the car. There used to be the argument that driving stick was better for the environment, but that's been replaced with electric cars.

@lucifargundam Yeah, it's mostly about the fun factor for me.

Driving auto is fine, but feeling like I have more of that connection with the car would be nice

@jbauer
Like Need for Speed connection? Herbie the love bug? Or Stephen King's Christine?

@jbauer
Need for Speed = you pretend you're a street racing badass
Herbie the love bug = cute Disney voltswagen bug is alive and races for you.
Stephen King's Christine = it loves you, it will kill for you, it will kill you too.

@lucifargundam @jbauer
It becomes totally second nature. I've driven manual transmission all my life. I don't even need to think about it. The only time it's taxing is while stuck in traffic. My trick is to put in neutral, keep the foot on the brake pedal and release the clutch pedal to give my left leg a rest. When cars in front start to move again, I press the clutch again, put stick on 1st then off we go.
On quite a few occasions, stick has been very helpful.

Also, so very few automatic transmissions seem to have smooth gear changes. They almost all give a kick when switching gears, I can't stand it. You have so much more control with a manual transmission.

But this may be my last car with manual trans. Maybe the next obe (if there's one) will be electric.

@lucifargundam @jbauer
Another thing I hate about auto transmissions: even at stop, the car wants to go forward. You need to push on that break pedal. You lift your foot, the darn car goes forward.
Must be why so many idiots at traffic lights advance little by little until they're almost half way into the intersection when the light turns green. 🙄

@normandc @lucifargundam Yup... though many modern cars use that to shut off the engine while at a stoplight, then when you let off the brake the engine starts again
