It is my belief of "be careful what you wish for" shoudl be held in academia as well as in the real world.

Critical review is vital in not just mathematical research, but in other fields related to things such as art and programmig.

If you cannot handle 'harsh' reviews, you should not ask for them in general. There is no way to gauge one's sensitivity without knowing them on a personal level which is outside expectations on a professional level- especially that in a widely populated/diverse background such as a university.

That aside, I too sympathize for the individual- but would not hinder other peoples lives due to the predisposition of one who had not been prepared for what they had signed up for.
