The more evident it is where the truth in a discussion lies, the more bootlickers appear to defend the indefensible.

People are stupid and will likely remain so. People usually only ever change if forced to- they're pretty arrogant/stubborn that way. It'd be a good idea to try and flex some mental/emotional dexterity.
