It has been a long-time tool/resource to have SciFi inspire modern innovation- as well as vise-versa (in this case for ex.). There was an update a few weeks back to a MMO tank game where they had a mockup of a specific modern tank model, and someone who intimiately worked on that model in person released classified information on it to make the game more realistic.
