I mean, so many more accidents happen in the US involving utility companies like PG&E... Why not the pipeline?

As for conflict and someone having an incentive to destroy the pipeline- if it wasn't Russia, it'd be PETA, some extremist group, or some other scapegoat.

At the end of the day, it happened and no-one saw it happen. Just gotta keep movin on- not like the Queen died, oh wait...
