I like Takashi Miike's films. He can be like John Woo on crack, and they're so full of themselves, and he'll put shock elements just to piss off viewers who don't find it cool, but he can make fun of all of this at the same time and cause some wild tone changes, making you wonder whether to laugh at the jokes.
He directed live action mahou shoujo too. And the first Animal Crossing movie?!? At the same time he did "Imprint".
I get the feeling he drunkenly rewatches his own movies during the day, gets a phone call and blurts out "Yeah, yeah, I'll do it", and after someone goes to sober him up, he just turns up at the shooting, zero idea what he's shooting, quickly reads the script, gets distracted thinking about his movies and writes some extra scenes up, gives good directions, then goes back to sleep and the process repeats.
The Animal Crossing one is just a minor voice role. But still, produced by Nintendo. How'd they let the director get away with it? I bet they didn't look. Or if they did, they just shrugged and said "He's pretty much in everything these days, isn't he?"
