Pro tip of the day: Wait till after Christmas to make any new friends. That way you get a whole year to decide if they are worth a gift or not! So all you people I've been hanging with from Dec 1 to Dec 25, you are all now officially friends. Welcome aboard, don't fuck this shit up!

@freemo You give gifts to people you don't know? Seems normal, but very awkward. I prefer to only gift if i know what is wanted. Prevent waste and all...

@admitsWrongIfProven im usually lretty generous with my gift giving. When i was in the usa id give christmas gifts to random people on the street sometimes.

I paid for someone's groceries once(they were ahead of me). As the mom was thanking me after i paid. I bought her son a pack of gum as well.

Funny thing, she was initially really pissed at me for invading her space or something as I walked up to the card reader before she could get back to it. Like I was stealing from her or whatever. It wasn't until I pulled my card out and register did it's beeps that I could hear her head clicking into realization of the situation.

I don't do such things that often because of how potentially irate people can be when you try to be nice to them as aforementioned.

I had a coworker tell me once about how he generously paid for a lady's coffee in front of him and she got offended because she thought he was insulting her financial status. "Dude, she was a little old lady- I had no way to tell how much money she had! They all dress the same!" Lol

Why did you pay for the groceries ?
I understand it could make people upset.

It was the holidays and a gesture of good will and generosity. However uncommon it is, it's not unheard of here. Sometimes people dress up as Santa before picking someone at random to pay for them.
