What is write caching?

Write caching is used to improve performance by using the volatile memory (RAM) to collect write commands sent to a storage device. Caching these commands allows the computer to temporarily save them until it's written to an external storage device.

While it’s true that write caching improves performance, some precautions need to be taken. It’s important to be aware of the risks such as data loss or data corruption due to power loss, hardware failure, or not safely ejecting the device simply because the data left in the RAM has not been written to the external storage device. For more information see this linked Microsoft article.

NOTE: It’s extremely important to safely remove your external storage device before disconnecting it from your computer. Safely removing instructions are provided below.

Mind you, I prefer but have not tried . Nor have I attempted to use drive write cache with zfs. Personally, I'd be skeptical to try it on critical data- it would have to be tested first before I had faith committing to it.

I'd be interested to hear how well this goes for you as you proceed.

@immychan

Having a stoic mindset to life helps when minimizing excess. It helps you focus on more critical matters and stay objective imo. Of course, one could go off-tangent and into a foreign deepend when trying to zealot the practice, but that's why it's helpful to reflect back on source material.

If you have spare time, I recommend looking a bit more into it. Other than that, minimalizing clutter and nonmaterial objects in general in life has made it easier for me to manage it all. Still difficult, but easier.

@Edent

Just to clarify, you know what drive write caching does- right?

TFW you're watching pandemic generation kids get more excited over Gauntlet for PS2 than Kirby for Nintendo Switch.

Question: where do babies get their tummy germs from?

Answer: tldr; from their mommies while in their bellies.

Look, if you're going to have all your teeth removed and replaced with a smooth metal plate, you want it as shiny as possible, because ...
