"The notion that Republican governors might be doing a better job responding to the pandemic and distributing vaccines than Democratic governors was not even entertained as a possible explanation for the discrepancy in case numbers."
This is what dogma and anti-science thinking looks like

Holy crap this is a real thing
Encountered a mind-blowing problem with OpenGL.
When I finally drew a circle using LWJGL with OpenGL, I tried moving my code from glBegin/glEnd calls to VBOs, and today I tried to make my code using shaders. And problem is here.
I draw a circle by slicing it into some segments and calculate the coordinates of points on the edge, then I can use GL_TRIANGLE_FAN or GL_LINE_LOOP to draw a circle. I randomly choose a color by assigning red equals cos(theta), where the i th theta is 2 * pi * i divided by total segments.
If I draw the circle using GL_LINE_LOOP, the color on the edge is correct, where only theta in mines pi to pi is positive number, thus given the red color, which should be the right hand side of the circle. Picture 1 is a compare that on the left I used GL_COLOR_ARRAY client state to draw color, on the right side I use shader but calculated cos before fragment shader(both in CPU part and vertex shader, they are same in result). In picture 2, I calculate cos value in the fragment shader by the theta passed by vertex shader. And it shows on the right of the picture, which is pretty odd.
I knew there other stages between vertex shader and fragment shader, but how they effect those color or theta value? Also on the left side of picture, color gradient given by fixed pipeline also seems a little bit weird.
BTW I have no ideas about where to find those documents. LWJGL doesn't have a detailed document on OpenGL(which I guess they of course not have one), and on the OpenGL side, the documents are just overwhelmed me...
As it turns out mpv can actually take commands remotely via `input-ipc-server`
Why would you ever want to? If you're like me you have mpv running in the background for animated backgrounds; sometimes i use music videos as my background.
With that flag above I can have another script I call from dmenu which pauses/resumes the background video
Also debian apparantly has a package for sending data to a socket on the commandline which is socat(its pretty neat)
@immychan
still love the South Park episode with the "golden PSP"

Peter Davis: "We were initially reluctant to move forward"
Christopher Lambert: "Between the producers, the director and myself- we didn't want to do a sequel"
...."so it was important that we had a good story first"
William Panzer: "so we conducted a fairly elaborate story that took place in the future that dealt with an issue we felt was important, which was the depletion of the o-zone layer"
William Panzer: "there were things we had to change"..."in order to integrate highlander 2 into the highlander legend, they have now come from earth in the past and the technology that existed in the past allowed them to go forward in time on earth. So the dialogue for th judges were completely rewritten as well as a section of the scene in the judges chambers where general Katana and the judges can see into the future on a holograph tv screen that was created for this version of the film"
It may be because Panzer did most of the talking, but so far he seems to be the most interested in the sequel. Further evidence required to validate hypothesis.

Then I guess this makes it the voice and words of the devil...?

I'm somewhat amazed that zoom became the de facto video conferencing software this past year. I've barely used it, and I've been somewhat bewildered listening to other folks lamenting excessive Zoom calls, but the interface, especially on mobile, is pretty unfriendly (can't be bothered to list why here). Was this a case of network effects or positioning? Like, it's weird Skype and MS didn't win out on this one.
@mamemomonga another project of mine is to make my own vr goggles using smartwatch LCDs and a pi zero as th controller. I haven't even begun to get started on that yet and still need to commission ribbon cables- something I haven't done before.
@mamemomonga when i plug in the mouse, it also turns on the pi zero. Its concealed as a proof of concept for future miniPC/mouse projects.
@mamemomonga I have a PiZero soldered into the inside one of my spare mice.

Not that I care too much, but this is interesting.
1. few weeks ago (in a desperate PR action) the govt of Slovakia bought 2Mio doses of Sputnik V vaccine.
2. instead of directly distributing it, the govt asked the national testing institute for medicines (or whatever is the name) to approve it
3. the institute finally delivered a report stating that a) the docs to the vaccine is severely incomplete, b) the Russian producer refuses to answer further questions both from the institute and from EMA and c) they noticed that the vaccine batches across countries significantly differ in what they are and how they are handled. Most importantly d) the batch used for Lancet study of efficacy is different than the one Slovakia bought so it's unclear what are the real performance properties of this stuff. In turn, the institute recommended to use the vaccine only at significant risk as they are not equipped to evaluate this more thoroughly (only EMA is).
4. in turn, the Russian producer (after speaking to the now ex-PM of Slovakia) alleged this as fake news and
5. requested return of the whole delivery on the ridiculous ground that in a breach of sales contract the vaccine was put to test by a 3rd party lab.

Well. Personally, I totally agree with the view that the conditions and scrutiny for admitting this vaccine shall be the same as for other producers, but Russian producer thinks otherwise and thereby withholds important information. They obviously try to force other countries to use this on the basis of plain belief that it works as marketed. And these antics about requesting it to be sent back, well... If they fully refund it too, I guess it should be OK. We learned something new about vaccine politics here though.
