Today's additions to the eXit spreadsheet (bit.ly/eXit) -- notable accounts that appear to have left X for good:

- @davidrevoy: artist, known for "Pepper & Carrot" comic and for his amazing learning resources; deleted his X account earlier this year 😻

- @colossal: art and visual culture blog; had 144K followers on X; left October 5 🎨

- @Popehat: law blogger; left Twitter last year (more active on BlueSky now) ⚖️

- @coffeegeek: has been blogging about coffee since the 1990s! ☕

@eloquence wait, why am I not there? I feel myself extremely notable!

@data_diving @eloquence to me it appears that for whatever reason Erik did not find you at least as notable as Kottke, to pick a random name from the list. Maybe he's German, you're not. Could this be the reason?

@mapto @data_diving

That's definitely not why 😅 . Just trying to keep the spreadsheet manageable, so I've been focusing on folks who've had a large presence, or institutions regardless of social media presence. But it might be nice to add a free-for-all section where anyone can opt in! What do you think?

@eloquence @data_diving first, I apologise for the previous comment of mine, which is way too rude.

I personally do consider your effort way too quixotic. Still, trying to be constructive, here's two pieces of feedback that come to my mind:

1. The one I find really difficult: Try to find ways to improve the validity of your dataset by reducing your personal bias, e.g. find objective criteria for who to include (think of your response to @coffeegeek ), and (what you seem to be doing already) try to source accounts that are not filtered by your personal social bubble.

2. I personally would love to be able to query your data, e.g. by "who's on the fediverse. This is currently doable, but not obvious on a phone (as I tried it). Experience from the lists of the Twitter Migration wave when Musk both that platform, shows that once the spreadsheet arrives at 100 rows, this becomes very laborious.

@mapto @data_diving

My response to CoffeeGeek was a joke. I included them because they have a track record of publishing that goes back to 1997 and had >27K followers on X. I source from many, many different places.

@mapto @data_diving

As far as querying is concerned, sure, suggestions welcome, but it may just end up not being very mobile-friendly - there's always tradeoffs to consider when building lists like this.

@mapto

I just added filter views for Mastodon, BlueSky and Threads. Unfortunately it looks like the default mobile view does not support this -- but if you're in the desktop view, you should now be able to select Data->Filter Views->Mastodon to see only Mastodon accounts.

There might be a clever way to do this as a sub-sheet 🤔

@mapto First of all: wow! No offence guys. I was just trying to be funny (I might be not good at it, people told me already). It was an innocent joke😉

Secondly, if anyone is interested in sharing data experience, asking questions about data — free to reach out to me, I always try to help💙
