For some people, in some circumstances, owning a car might be unavoidable. In that case, driving the smallest possible electric vehicle that meets the bare minimum requirements for necessary transportation can be a reasonable choice. I recognize that.

On the other hand, driving a large, heavy SUV, whether electric or not, is *never* acceptable. That should be obvious. And if you're in a position to walk or bike or take public transit instead of using a car — as I do, even when it's inconvenient — then that's the best choice of all.

🧐 Have you seen our Free to Protest Guides? 🧐

We believe that people should be able to attend peaceful protests without the police using sophisticated surveillance tools to monitor, track & identify protestors indiscriminately. 📢

1/ Sanctions on the Russian aviation industry are leading to an increasing number of malfunctions and emergency landings, due to a lack of maintenance and technical support, and an acute shortage of spare parts. Safety is said to be gradually deteriorating. ⬇️

By now it is clear that ChatGPT and other LLMs have been oversold, thanks to the powerful media presence of their creators and the wishful thinking of audiences. Many of the claimed miracles of such systems have been disproven. Here, just another such research that trashes bold non-scientific claims. This doesn't mean LLMs are not useful, just that the term AI grows the wrong expectations in the human mind

Last week I spoke at @journalismfest@twitter.com on how open-source intelligence is used to combat propaganda and uncover new information during Russia's war on Ukraine. Thank you for having me.

I promised to share a list of links to tools and sources. Here it is (I hope it helps) 👇

Tucker Carlson and Fox News have parted ways days after the network reached a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems for over $787 million. A source familiar with the situation told Axios that the firing was not part of the settlement agreement.

🚙 A car is parked 92% of the time.
🚗 A car spends 20% of its driving time looking for parking.
🚙 Its 5 seats only move ø 1.5 people.
🚗 86% of its fuel never reaches the wheels.
🚙 A road at peak throughput is only 10% covered with cars.

Sounds efficient ?

Interestingly, I was just telling someone today how several of the papers on "LLMs for Task Planning by Prompting" are rife with the Clever Hans effect (c.f. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clever_H ). I guess I will have to do a thread.. 2/

Do you reside in the USA? Were you a Facebook user between 2007-22?

Then Meta owes you money!

That's right, because Facebook has accessed user data without permission, various class action lawsuits have resulted in them having to pay a total of $725 million to its users.

And who are they paying? Almost every American who's used Facebook!

Want that money? Here's where to file that claim:

What does it mean for a large language model (LLM) to "have" a particular ability? Developmental psychologists argue about these questions all the time and have for decades. There are some ground rules. 🧵

"When I tell it it's wrong, ChatGPT tries again and gets more correct!"

No. It learns which answer you stopped asking questions at. It has no idea of correct factually!

Correct for ChatGPT means *you are satisfied* with the combo of words it put together. That you liked its information-shaped sentence.

That's all. If you tell it it's still wrong, it will try again with different words instead.

You just think it's getting more right because you let it stop when it accidentally is.
