The Raspberry Pi thing is a perfect example of why I don't think corporations have a place on the fediverse. I'm still trying to formulate the exact wording for my argument, but essentially there's a form of inconsideration inherent in profit-motivated companies, as consideration doesn't drive up profits. This inconsideration influences their business at all levels: from high-level business decisions, the company culture, hiring decisions, and how they interact with customers/potential customers.

@brainblasted yeah, this is why I'm generally not following brands on the #Fediverse as I want to interact with people.

@tim
I follow them, but I just ignore them as well.
I suspect brand presence on Fedi is probably going to happen at some point, and I like to keep track of it. That being said, we should absolutely keep those things separate in our minds from actual people and we should ensure that they don't control the space.
On the other hand: what RP is doing seems pretty egregious even for brands. This is probably going to be a PR headache at best and very likely a loss of sales for them, given that are also doing it on Twitter.
I'm honestly surprised they have handled it this badly.
@brainblasted

@mathlover @brainblasted you bring up a good point that, especially on #Mastodon with filters, I can follow brands but have them filtered such that they don't overrun or control my timeline.
