@alex Having decided long ago never to buy a Chromebook myself, please give your reasoning. I want to get my sister away from Chromebooks, and would love to have a list of reasons to give her.
@fribbledom I don't think my parents are ever going to make their house a smart home, for this and many other reasons.
This is concerning. Fast tracking a vaccine is more than a little risky, and the last thing we need is giving anti-vaxxers ammunition.
@valleyforge I'd argue that Facebook isn't as concerned about historical acts of violence as it is about ones that are being livestreamed on the platform. I'd also argue that Facebook should go die in a fire and that expecting transparency or consistency from Zuckerberg's monster is naïve, but I have a feeling it wouldn't be that much of an argument, as everyone here would likely be inclined to agree with me
@mathlover O.O another ML! I do love math as well, though that's not what ML stands for in my case (it's just my initials)
@Demosthenes In any case it's a good way around the recent issues with Fediverse apps and the Google Play store.
PC language can be a real issue at work when working internationally.
Engineers are using language which was entirely normal a few decades ago, but they can struggle with those modern nuances, and it always feels a little shitty to correct someone who's already acheived learning a second language when I can only speak English.
Like, 'surprise, mofo - we changed which words were allowed'.

Yes! It's called a progressive web app, and will be big when it's accepted by Apple.
“This threatens to change the web from a hyperlinked collection of resources (that can be audited, selectively fetched, or even replaced), to opaque all-or-nothing ‘blobs’ (like PDFs or SWFs),”

@tomasino nice! imagine a world where everybody read even just 1 book a month.
more books people!
Yea this is such a horrible slippery slope if we go down this path, forcing app developers to be moderators of all systems in the wild their app may be capable of connecting to simply because it speaks the right protocol.
This is dangerous.
Holy crap, google is apparently taking down all/most fediverse apps from google play on the grounds that that some servers in the fediverse engage in hate speech. At least three apps I know of anyway and I'd imagine the others will follow soon under the exact same reasoning.} Seems to be the case with Husky, Fedilab, and "subway" tooter.
this is a scary precedent if google play is going to ban any apps that can in any way be used to access content with hate speech. So what about a forum client, do they take that down just because there is a forum somewhere on the internet posting hate speech?
This is particularly worrisome because for most people Google Play is the only way they understand to install apps at all.

It may be more worthwhile to raise a stink about this as much as possible, as this seems like the kind of thing responsible to public outcry. Even if political efforts in the US would be unlikely to yield fruit, this could end up looking really bad for Google from a PR standpoint.
Apparently my post has been directly linked from Engadget now too. Coooool
