It really feels like Mastodon has what I used to love about 🐦 but what had been eroded by corporations, algorithms and trolls. I feel hopeful this can be a better more inclusive place.

On the topic of #onlinevoting - still seeing people on birbsite with major reckons that 'because we can bank on line, we *must* be able to vote online"... These are non-technical people who, have unbounded (blind) faith in technical people to solve all problems... and they're adept at complete rejecting those very same technical people when they tell them quite emphatically "your faith is misguided. It can't be done." Humanity is doomed. Blind faith is not a virtue, it's a character flaw.

We are very close to publishing the code publicly within the next month. It will be free and open source.

If you have issues with your Mastodon account and are on mastodon.social, take these steps:
1. Go to https://instances.social/ & do the wizard
2. Select any instance that pops up that looks nice to you
3. Create an account there
4. Set up an account alias by going to Settings -> Account -> Account Settings -> Moving from a different account
5. Move your account by going to https://mastodon.social/settings/migration

The #Fediverse is distributed, you don't need to be on the most popular instance to participate.

We have been informed of an apparently targeted attack via a Google ad, trying to lure people looking for GIMP to a malicious download.

The users are taken to a site that has copied the look of https://gimp.org, but the downloads are different.

The GIMP team does not make use of ads on Google or elsewhere.

So Musk is laying off people *today* at Twitter to try to get them out before Tuesday when many of them have huge bonuses scheduled.

There is a Nov. 1st vesting at Twitter. By announcing a start mass layoffs, Musk is trying to avoid employees this portion of their compensation. This is because he’s a scumbag.

Mass layoffs without notice are illegal, btw. He obviously doesn’t gad but this will be a lawsuit.
