Given all the conversations, I thought I'd share a book everyone should read - Cassandra Speaks. Here are a few quotes that hooked me, read the rest in the link:

"The stories that people have been absorbing for centuries...stories that tell false and destructive narratives about women and men, femininity and masculinity, and the nature and purpose of life.

Cassandra's story is that of every woman who has been dismissed, gaslighted, or punished for having an opinion of her own.

When the stories that have glued together a culture lose their potency, things begin to fall apart. But new things rise up."

Powerful stuff. It makes me want to learn more about and my own heritage. Inestimable loss.

@mguhlin Thank you for sharing this book. Your notes make me want to read it too. Especially this one "Stories endure. They outlive the people who tell them, they jump from one continent to another, they continue to mold cultures for generations."

@braveneutrino powerful, right? “many of our foundational narratives that pretend to be about and for all of us were told by only a few of us, and therefore have served a mere slice of humanity.” That pretty much covers so many situations today, right?

@mguhlin This hits on so many levels. We've been saying for years that educators need to tell their stories. One of my original reasons for Twitter back in its heyday. I'm working with my colleagues to weave storytelling into STEM, VR and other innovative learning to tap into the power of story to teach. There are SO many untold stories.

@wfryer @mguhlin Lots to dig into here. Thanks Miguel. In the spirit of sharing, I weave Lisa Cron's "Wired for Story" into our work with instructional tech and VR. The power of story to create emotional connections is what great teachers tap into. Mollee Holloman turned me onto Lisa Cron'ss work.
