I read that you could upload video under 40MB to Mastodon but I got a server time out message with a 38MB video. Cut it down to 28MB, and still wouldn't upload. Anyone know how to make this work? Is there a Mastodon.social help account?
@JoshuaHolland Large uploads to Mastodon instance are server space hogs. Best to host video on Peertube, Youtube, or somewhere else then post link.
@mguhlin Ah, OK, I do have a Youtube account.
But is a cute 16-second dog video really considered a large file? Seems like a not great way to post that kind of content.
@JoshuaHolland Yes, I agree, but one must also take in that most Mastodon instances are works of love and underfunded. Since videos take up lots of space on those, I would abstain. But you do you. I have yet to find a fediverse alternative to Youtube, but then I haven’t spent more than ten minutes looking.🙂
