@alicebarr
I'd suggest we help our students thrive in the world that exists now. The dot points offered by #Google, as enticing as they are, we've been discussing for years.
As #educators move into this open, digital and connected space, should we be questioning more critically the technology giants that have infiltrated our education system. #edutoot #edtech

Time for my #introduction!
I was born in Tzfat/Safed in the Galilee in northern #Israel / #Palestine, but grew up mostly in #NorthLondon (#COYG). I studied #philosophy, #politics, etc. in Manchester and #TelAviv. After bouncing around, I somehow found my calling as a #teacher in a #waldorf school. Before I had two wonderful kids and a mixed Canaanite dog, I used to volunteer in the #WestBank, esp. with #RabbisForHumanRights. I mention that as pure virtue signalling, cos I don't want no trouble.

#Teachers, what are you doing today to help your LGBTQ+ students feel safe, loved, and cared for in the wake of the #ClubQ murders?

I am subbing at a high school today. I don't know these students and they don't know me. As a general rule, I try to share my pronouns. When I take attendance, I go student by student in case they are using a different name than is listed on the attendance sheet or have anything else they wish to ask me or say to me. I wish there was more I could do.

@wfryer @edutooters I still check in with Twitter periodically, but I’ve had so much more interactions here the past few days. I had been feeling like I was tweeting into the void. I’m connecting again here.

Okay, so I feel like I need a re- #introduction because I didn't really express myself on my first go.

I work in #education . I taught English for 16 years before becoming an #instructionalcoach and #technerd

I love #Broadway musicals, #gaming , #reading , especially SciFi/Fantasy. I sometimes write #poetry .

I believe in being nice to other people. My favorite book series ever is the Wheel of Time. My favorite band is They Might Be Giants. I'm an elder millennial, and proud of it.

Do I know anybody who knows the rules re sharing examples from published novels in online courses? I am developing a course for writers & editors that really needs paragraphs / short scenes included for analysis & illustration, and I have lots of experience with that in physical classrooms but know fair use & permissions issues are different in this context. Help? @edibuddies #InstructionalDesign #EdTech #Copyright

#Introduction Hello. I'm a law prof, a philosopher, a progressive. I've deactivated #twitter and am searching for a new place to learn and to think out loud. #politics #law #democracy #elections #art #literature #history #science #books

My Ignorant Reflection on Situation

@mguhlin @mergerson what if, in order to create an instance, you have to complete a diversity and training?

coursera.org/courses?query=div

Creating an instance and becoming a moderator is a bit like holding a leadership position, no?

What if users applied to create instances and a part of their application required competency in diversity, equity, and inclusion?

School System Inequities

How Educational Inequities Are Further Tearing Apart the Country

The inequities of our school system make a mockery of the gauzy rhetoric of the American Dream.

I bet you’ve heard of Galileo & Hubble, but what about Henrietta Swan Leavitt?

Leavitt changed astronomy. She figured out new ways to measure a star’s distance from Earth & her work helped determine the universe is expanding.

Her boss, Edward Pickering, published her findings UNDER HIS NAME. Later, Shapley used her findings to determine distances around the Milky Way w/o credit.

Leavitt’s work is still used today. So next time you hear about famous men in #science share her remarkable story.

As they collaborate to make decisions about what technology to install and how to manage it, school and technology leaders must share understanding of three ideas.

First, the systems must be sufficiently secure to remain functional and reliable, but open enough to allow for the functions educators deem necessary.

Second, to accomplish secure yet flexible systems, educators and technicians must engage in an on-going process to improve technology systems.

Third, all stakeholders must recognize the complex nature of the enterprise networks in schools.
