Belugas in Alaska and other arctic areas are declining.

' Belugas, like chimpanzees, birds, humans, and many other animals, create cultures by passing knowledge and customs from one generation to the next. With climate change and other human activities reshaping the world at an alarming rate, belugas will likely have to rely on innovative cultural practices to adapt — genetic adaptation is simply too slow to keep up. 🤖 An AI Wrote this Blog Post - controlaltachieve.com/2022/12/

As an educator you have to check out #ChatGPT and consider the impact on education.

I tested it by having it write my blog post about the positives and negatives of AI in the classroom.

Would love to know your thoughts.

#MastodonOnTheMove Dec 9, 2022

@TexasObserver @TucsonSentinel @restofworld Create Mastodon Instances

We've entered a new stage in the evolution of Mastodon social media. Trailblazing media organizations are creating their own instances–something impossible on other social media platforms.

Recently publications like @RollingStone, @ProPublica and @sfgate established official accounts, but now a few pioneers are taking next step.

New technology has hurt students, should be restricted in classrooms, educator says

Technology in classrooms causes more problems than it solves: former teacher

Technology is great. I can send out a post now, and microseconds later, it can be read, judged, and rejected as far away as Australia.

So in the past 12 weeks, there have been…
-multiple attacks via firearms on power substations in NC and SC (just this week).
-6 attacks via firearms, hand tools, arson, & metal chains at power substations in WA and OR.
-6 attacks via firearms on substations in FL in a single 12-day stretch in September.

This style of attack on power substations has been laid out in detail in multiple accelerationist documents, including an “accelerationist handbook” that circulated on Telegram this summer.

@mguhlin Always happy to share.
Here is the Video Playlist - bit.ly/Summer21Vids
We also use this same type of format for communication - like this one from our I.T. Department for students - bit.ly/2122stutech

@mguhlin I'll add another hack - changing the orientation to portrait and being thoughtful about the design, you can create an "app-like" experience that looks great on phones when the deck is published.
My example is a podcast playlist (I did a video one too) for faculty professional learning one summer - bit.ly/Summer21Pods
The original free template came from Slidesmania and I remixed it.

I wrote a blog post on this topic 2 years ago... Since then, one of my main points has disappeared with MoodleNet's ability to share content between servers, but I think people spend a lot of time and energy trying to make WordPress behave more like an LMS, and I just wish the Open Community spent the same time and energy to make the most popular LMS a better open publishing tool.

Yikes, my flow diagram is woefully out of date. It has been awhile since I updated it.

Here's the latest (but not last) version with fresh numbers, but looking at it now, I see some problems.

While I still am connected to folks on work social media (the ones I maintain to share work resources through) like Linked In, / , , sharing content once to many social media outlets is still difficult.

IFTTT and Twitter are still at the center of it all and it doesn't play nice with Mastodon as far as I can tell. The Toot Bookmarklet with moa.party cross-poster has proven invaluable in cutting out and , but what I wish was a simple RSS feed to Mastodon, then Mastodon to , , etc.

Of course, this is cross-posting blasphemy on , but posting once and seeing it go everywhere else frees up time for more conversation while meeting people where they are, not where I think they SHOULD be.

Anyone else having fun with this kind of thing?
