@MariaLiv I put "abstract art" - hopefully it reassures they're not missing out.

@mjambon I try to describe even my abstract paintings.

We are only abled until we are not. One day we can be the one wishing we could read some good describing Alt text, you know… 💛

@MariaLiv I see that. Are you sure it's useful beyond giving good vibes? (I compare this situation to attempting to summarize poetry: I don't see how it could describe what's essential about it)

@mjambon If you ask people who are visually impaired, they will probably give you a better answer than I can.

@MariaLiv I'll see if there's a good hashtag for it. Being asked directly is probably a hassle for a lot of people.

@mjambon I know that abstract art can be difficult to describe. But I think we can ask ourselves the question “if I enjoy looking at this picture that I post, why wouldn't a visually impaired person want to experience it?”

Imo you don't have to write a novel, just a few lines, “abstract painting capturing the feeling of the sea in storm, in blue and pink nuances” or something like that. But that's only the way I do alt text for abstract paintings, because imo a little is better than nothing.

@MariaLiv I mean this is why I don't spend much effort trying to convey the same material in text form because I can't (and even art critics aren't great at it imo), but I describe just enough to not waste the reader's time.
