I don't really have a map with original and literal meaning names in one. So I putting them side by side.

Really interesting.
Pradesh translated (home/land or territory) make me think to patrie (homeland), literally fatherhood in French) but prad vs patr, not sure there is direct relation with the r not at the same place.
maharashtra (maha=great like maharaja (great king (emperor ?)), there is magnus in Latin, like the French king (in fact here a Frank king, a German tribe, the name France, come from this tribe, that come in France during Huns invasions) Charlemagne (from Latin Carlus magnus, means Karl the Great, in french today magnus is more linked to “magnifique” (magnificent). rashtra is probably linked to raj like king/kingdom (french roi=>royaume (kingdom)/royauté (royalty)/royal ?).
Does Nagaland (land of nagas) come from english during british colonisation ?
Manipur (the jewelled land) what is jewel here, is it pur and related to pure in english/french ?
@thor
I live in Maharashtra or The Great Nation (Maha means great, Rashtra means nation/state)
The capital of Maharashtra is Mumbai.
