@foreverxml
I saw in a review site that it is filled with problems and messy design

@mur2501 For me it isn't. I use Workstation Edition 34 and it's pretty smooth and nice.

@tirifto
Well that's Linux, Gnu projects build it's OS upon the Linux kernel.
Parabola is derived from Arch.

@lbehm
Do you know how to install Bunsenlabs alongside windows?

@mur2501 Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Raspberry Pi OS

@schenklklopfer @kranfahrer
Only have 4 options max in the poll so can't list the rarer ones. Thought that shall not stop for someone to point out 🙂
So how's your experience with Solaris and how you compare it to others?

@mur2501 @kranfahrer

Using OpenIndiana on several storage servers with ZFS for NFS and SMB. Hosting about one PetaByte of data on those systems.

I think Linux can do this job as well but only the recent versions. As I started doing this - 10 years ago - there was no option for ZFSonLinux...

Ever tried to host over 500.000 files in one folder on NTFS on Windows and share it via SMB?
Well Windows sucks^^

@schenklklopfer @kranfahrer
I would love to know more about handling very large amount of data and the effects of different Operating Systems and File systems on it

@mur2501 @kranfahrer

Basically it is not that different than smaller amount of data.
With the difference that you have way more hardware...

So you can do everything as it is on a smaller environment.

The magic starts at the point you want to have a good performance. You need several tounsands of IOPS and so on.

Than you need to do very heavy optimization on every peace of hard- and software. That's where ZFS and Solaris comes from...

@mur2501 Debian for my work's laptop, Arch for my personal computer, and Raspbian OS running on a Pi for my media center.

@mur2501 Archlinux on my homeserver, on my private laptop, in wsl on my work laptop. It is quite nice.

@mur2501 Ubuntu for work and server, Arch for personal stuff

@mur2501 Well, bleeding-edge was no real priority for me. Though it's nice to have. And Fedora ships - at least for me - with the nicest balance between bleeding-edge and stable. Fedora 34 with Pipewire and Wayland is working like a charm. The fact that the stuff is bleeding-edge is a only a nice-to-have. The thing I care about is reliability. And I swear 5 years of Distrohopping, and I have not found a single distro that stable. So for me, Fedora = non-plus-ultra <3

@mur2501 Manjaro on desktop, Arch on laptop, Ubuntu/Debian on servers

@mur2501

Servers: Ubuntu (for now)
Desktop: Win10/Fedora KDE
Laptop: Fedora KDE
Work-PC: Ubuntu
