Why is it so hard to set up basic auto-indent in vim? Am I stupid or something? I just want basic indentation for custom blocks and no lining-things-up-in-columns cruft.

@namark ehrr, no. maybe I was referring too much to my own use of #vim -- I don't do any layout in there, just let pandoc do it for me. I only use vim for writing text, no coding.
guess that doesn't solve your need for custom indentation...
