There is going to be a real cost to Elon Musk fucking everything up. But that is what happens when you rely on services like Twitter and don't control your own data or data flow. Why they don't make the move *now* to migrate over to Mastodon is flabbergasting.

@bp It's been all over the press for months and all over Twitter as well. You'd think their IT departments would be at least aware.
@natharari You're right, of course, but people are deeply irrational, and the general zeitgeist is one of suspicion and circling of wagons. There's not exactly a surplus of emotional resources in democratic societies these days.
Best chance is to somehow get decision makers in a private conversation, if you can
@bp Unfortunately, I no longer know of any. I used to a very long time ago, but not since a few decades.
I think it's pretty foolish to rely on internet availability generally during a disaster.
