people talk about Mastodon being difficult for new users. but have you tried being a new user on Twitter? when i reactivated my Twitter account last year, i was almost invisible due to being buried by the algorithm. whereas here, my posts got actual engagement within the first few days.
so if people are comparing their established Twitter accounts to a Mastodon account they've had for less than a month, then maybe they're not comparing apples to apples? Twitter's onboarding isn't any better
@ignova I was nearly invisible on Twitter almost all of the time. Here, I feel much more a part of a community. I feel as though I can talk to most people. There is more art, more thought, and more engagement here.
@mreldrich @ignova the only algorithm here on Mastodon is time... I love reading my feed in chronological order. Especially when Elmo took over, I'm seeing way more of "this is what some right-wing nutjob tweeted, and you're seeing it because your follower follows them." If I wanted to see that right-wing bullshit I would follow them myself. I've been doing a heckuva lot more blocking over there lately.
