Does the genre of tragedy exist for movies? Outside of Shakespeare adaptations, I can't think of any

@nomi American Beauty, Unforgiven, Sophie’s Choice come to mind immediately. I am a fan of tragedies. It may be that Hollywood doesn’t make so many now (feels like it’s all Marvel movies), but they do exist.

Stroszek (1977) is brutal, a personal favorite.
Requiem for a Dream (2000) sort of sets the standard.
American History X, just because of the downer ending
Don’t Look Now (1973), The Haunting of Julia (1977), and The Mist (2007) all probably qualify.
I’m sure there are others. Anime and martial arts and horror each have some legit tragedies.
