@stefan @arstechnica The article seems to agree: it's a terrible idea. A control that's 85% accurate? *shudder*
As I've said before, every new input device is worse than the one before. Keys > mouse > gamepad > touchpad > touchscreen > voice > gesture.
@peterdrake @stefan @arstechnica voice control- it’s great for the car, and it’s great when you’re in the kitchen or have kids- I miss being able to say Xbox, On and it would power up
@mattdkerr @stefan @arstechnica Yes, I exaggerate -- they all have their use cases. Drawing with a keyboard would be fairly silly.
On the other hand, when a console wants you to enter a password by selecting characters on the screen with a gamepad is ... annoying. So is trying to play a real-time game (e.g., racing) on a touch screen where you can't feel the "buttons" or even see them (because they're under your fingers).
@peterdrake @stefan @arstechnica connecting and deferring input to mobile is the answer for the keyboard thing (many apps do this with an activation code), or simply allow connecting a keyboard (Final Fantasy 14)
@peterdrake @stefan @arstechnica and yes I don’t like games that emulate gamepads on their screen- it’s much better to have actual game pad controls like the Switch or Steamdeck
@peterdrake @stefan @arstechnica mouse is bad? Come on now, it was fantastic for games- joysticks were relative motion. Gamepads, also great- some games are much better with all the buttons you need at your fingers in a comfortable way (Diablo 3 on Xbox is a super fun example). Touch screen, it’s very good at one thing— drawing
