What are your testing practices? Do you do unit tests, system tests, manual tests? Do you simply never make errors?

I write unit tests for all my systems, which are usually quite small.

Now I started doing some larger scale tests. In those I mock nothing, just feed user inputs to start abilities etc. I hope this will help me detect regression errors from big changes earlier. I want to check is the functionality is still intact. I expect the unit tests to fail anyway.

@dsina In my current project, I tried to have unit tests, but after several weeks of trying the student programmers revolted. They complained that it felt like the tests were the goal. Now we're back to manually playing through the game to test each change. It feels absurd, but as far as I can tell it's the industry standard.

@peterdrake I am not crazy about testing either but it is a necessary evil.

The importance of handing over code ownership to the team was hard to understand for me as a student. If you can't tie a bow around your code with some good testing you'll be stuck fixing your code everytime somebody else breakes it.
