US healthcare kvetch

So I started using a CPAP machine a few months ago. Apparently the story is that it's 100% effective, but patient compliance is the big issue; some give up the first night.

After verifying that it would work for me (and which mask I would need), I went ahead and signed up for "supplies" (replacement parts) to be shipped out every three months. They had me fill out a contract.

It's been more than three months, and I haven't received anything. I contacted the company through the email address the provided, and got a reply to call a phone number. I did that, and the story turned out to be:

"Your insurance doesn't allow automatic shipping, so we received your order and didn't enroll you."

It's all straightened out now, but "silently do nothing" is not a good policy.

@peterdrake I started using CPAP a few years ago, and it’s been life-changing. That said, one insurance-related complaint I have is that the thing spies on me; it’s constantly sending telemetry on my use of the machine (using a built-in cellular data transmitter), because insurance doesn’t want to pay for a machine that’s not used. I understand the financial motivation and yet I find that really creepy.
