I suppose this is the time to point out that Siva Afi: The Fireknife Dance of Samoa makes a great gift for your most flammable loved ones. It's a pretty safe bet that your tabletop gamer relative doesn't already have it.

I have to choreograph my number for next week's New Student Orientation fire show, but there are two problems:

1) Because of the crispy landscape, the Fire Marshal has a burn ban on. This has happened for at least the last six years, so we have LED props we can spin.

2) Because of wildfires, the air quality is too low to engage in vigorous aerobic activity outdoors. The weather forecast is "haze".

Thanks, ExxonMobil!

(They used to make one called Rings of Fire with even better art, but I think they've been discontinued.)

Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!

I do not have Pacific Islander ancestry myself, but I have been practicing the Samoan art of Siva Afi (fireknife dancing) for 12 years. I worked with world-champion fireknife dancers, Samoan speakers, and a Samoan artist to create a card game about it:

Last night's rehearsal: set my pants on fire.

Tonight's: spilled my blood.

This show is going to be AWESOME!

Loving the excellent tools and customer service at thegamecrafter.com.

My game Siva Afi: The Fireknife Dance of Samoa is currently featured:

This excellent introductory juggling video implicitly notes a counterintuitive phenomenon that I discovered when learning to toss Samoan fireknives: it's easier to catch if you toss *higher*, because you have more time to observe the trajectory.

Juggling torches is difficult because, unlike a staff or a Samoan fireknife, a torch only has fire on one end -- so, in the dark, you can't tell where the handle is.

Unfortunately, due to supply chain issues, prices at thegamecrafter.com are about to go up. If you're planning to order Siva Afi: The Fireknife Dance of Samoa, now's the time!

With some excellent last minute help from the person who made the knife, my sister, and my sister's friend, we got the LED knife working in time for the show.
