Just curious — are any reporters or news anchors planning to do stories on a “decline in civility” because top Republicans are calling for and celebrating executions of public officials, or do those stories only apply when Sarah Sanders is asked to leave a restaurant?

High school English does for miserable literary fiction what the Senate does for racism.

It's funny how panicked some people get at the thought of changing up the reading lists for high schoolers. As if the so-called "classics" will somehow disappear if they are no longer assigned by long-suffering English teachers and followed by torturous five paragraph essays.

Miss the @lewisandclark Department of Mathematical Sciences? Zoom into our colloquium to see some impressive student presentations that will almost certainly include Greek letters! https://college.lclark.edu/live/events/324908-math-colloquium

On a related note, AlphaGo did not "solve" Go -- and no system ever will. (Checkers is solved, but Chess and Go are simply too large.)

RT @pfau
And I generally dislike claims that a field is "solved". Vision is far from "solved" despite great results on ImageNet. Similarly, protein folding is not yet "solved", and probably never will be - but it is now "solved enough" that really exciting things become possible.

The London-based Design Museum has nominated a kit that allows you to grow your own steaks from your own cells as a "design of the year".

The designers have clarified that "technically" this is not cannibalism.

Perhaps this is the karmic payoff for enduring the Twilight movies?

Historic progress on the protein folding problem by @DeepMind. A fantastic achievement that shows the potential of #AI techniques for contributing to fundamental science https://deepmind.com/blog/article/alphafold-a-solution-to-a-50-year-old-grand-challenge-in-biology

Thoughts on Happiest Season:

1. Mackenzie Davis gives off something of a Jennifer Garner vibe, what with the hair and the having-her-father-played-by-Victor-Garber.

2. Dan Levy gets the best lines.

3. How much absolutely needless suffering comes from religious conservatism?

Congratulations, my fellow Iso-nauts, YOU'VE MADE IT TO MARS!!

I'm going to @PlaySquadrons Tuesday night. If you're a @lewisandclark student, alum, or employee and want in, let me know. #PioneerSquadron
