@arstechnica "Sans-serif typefaces are easier to read than their more baroque relatives, particularly on a screen. Additionally, sans-serif fonts are less likely to create problems for people who need to use optical character recognition and text-to-speech tools."

Is there evidence for these claims? The first one certainly isn't consistent with my experience.

@Drkiki *Very Taylor Swift voice*: I knew there'd be Tribbles when you walked in.

In a country where 30% of the population is comprised of white men, 14 of the the 17 GOP committee chairs are white men, while the remaining three are white women.

I had gotten into my head that my parents' first date was "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".

I have now learned a fact that conflicts with this theory: the movie came out four years after I was born.

DeWilde exercise 6.6: Draw a Vase Using Hatching and Crosshatching.

This was hard! The chapter has been building up to drawing the vase, which I had to fake because my actual vase is transparent; I'm not ready for that Escher-level stuff. @spencer @cartocalypse I've heard the latter situation described as "passed by value, but the value is a reference".

The difference is that f(a) can modify the object to which a refers, but it can't cause a to point to a different object.
