If you are still looking for a 2023 calendar let me recommend this fabulous effort by the US Army Corps of Engineers Portland District.

Featuring plenty of #cats (photoshopped not quite to scale) in pictures of civil engineering (dams / tidal walls etc)

@kevinbowen Two fun facts:

Luciana Paluzzi (Dr. Lisa Benson) was also a Bond girl (Thunderball).

The movie was the inspiration for the board game The Awful Green Things From Outer Space: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/16

@peterdrake I _just_ finished watching The Green Slime. Incredible! Just the Tom Jones-esque opening theme song, alone, was worth the price of admission. And it just keeps getting better from there. Wonderful miniture model set-pieces. Really sketchy voice dubbing. A Sigmund & the Sea-monster alien invsasion. This was supremely cheesy. Loved it! Thanks again for the recommendation.

Hi where can I find all the funny women on mastadon? Too many boys in my feed sorry boys. #womenincomedy

Carcassonne was the obvious and proper choice for starting our two weeks of C games.

It's astonishing to think we've been playing this for 23 years, almost half my life! I've been playing for so long, I remember when the river tiles were introduced as an expansion.

Tonight, @peterdrake and I were exactly tied until the farming points. Unfortunately, he drew the late game cathedral he needed to unite two fields and outnumber me in the key farming region. Foiled!

@mattdkerr @stefan @arstechnica Yes, I exaggerate -- they all have their use cases. Drawing with a keyboard would be fairly silly.

On the other hand, when a console wants you to enter a password by selecting characters on the screen with a gamepad is ... annoying. So is trying to play a real-time game (e.g., racing) on a touch screen where you can't feel the "buttons" or even see them (because they're under your fingers).

Jack the Ripper is my favorite of the Mystery Rummy card games, but Bonnie and Clyde might be next in line.

I like the simplicity in card play balanced by meld-or-hold tension from maneuvering the Crime Spree Car around. This game, I was particularly pleased that I made all of my melds when the car was at the proper location for double points!

It's too bad the graphic design is so muddy and indistinguishable. It would hit the table more often if it was prettier.

@boardgamebreakdown We've been impressed with how well the various mechanisms mesh with each other.
