If I search for "java string api" (no quotes) on Google, Bing, or Qwant, they give me a link to the documentation ... for version 7. We're now on version 19, which doesn't show up on the first page.

Why? Why would a search engine do that?

@ingalls

1. Have a plan.
2. Get to know your neighbors -- you're going to be rescuing each other.
3. Stock up on water.
4. Play Cascadia 9.0 to learn more: peterdrake.itch.io/cascadia90

A large #earthquake anywhere in the world is a good reminder that Pacific Northwest residents should be prepared for our next one.

Have a plan for when shaking starts. On the coast, have a plan to escape #tsunami hazard zones and reunite with family in a safe place.

@kamme <shouting at shipboard computer> "What do you mean you can't find the replicator. It's RIGHT THERE!"

@bark_maul We've trained to ring a bell when she wants to go outside. It's ... a double-edged sword.

@Pat I'd want audio -- I listen when I'm doing housework or driving.

Not rhetorical!

@zens ... and each language gets more terrible with age, thanks the freeping creaturism and the need for backward compatibility.

Podcast recommendations?

I'm open to a wide variety of things, but looking for something other than "two white dudes have unscripted opinions" or "interviewing people about their creative journeys".

Yoooo, if you had to recommend a game engine to a 100% noob to start using, someone who isn't even sure if they want to make games but wants to try it out, which would it be and why? #gamedev #indiedev

The weather is nice enough today that #Violet can go outside to watch the backyard show. The hummingbird at the feeder is minding its own business, but the squirrel on the fence is just messing with her.

#DogsOfMastodon

I played Castell and CV today.

Castell is about the human tower builders of Catalonia. It has the most epic draw bag I've ever seen; you could fit a pair of shoes in there.

CV is in the same genre as Funny Friends: assemble the story of your life from various cards representing events, experiences, and achievements. CV's rules are somewhat simpler, but the cards in FF are funnier. A well-done game like this seems like it would be ripe for regular expansions adding new events or careers.

@TerribleMaps Hmm. One thing is that there are two shades of blue in the map but only one in the legend. Same for green.

Also, I'm no ornithologist, but is there really only ONE species of perching bird across most of North America?

"Can you explain this gap in your resume?"

"Yes, I used LaTeX and couldn't fix that bit"
