My number one #Mastodon tip for people is to boost more!

Discovery sucks on Mastodon, which is partially by design, but it also means it’s hard to find new and interesting people here. If you see something cool, reach for that boost button as well!

@danwentzel I've been astonished to hear about someplace in California where mass transit doesn't go to either the airport or the sport stadium.

Want to find certain communities, people, or topics here? Guess at and search hashtags. The website autocompletes to help. Follow anyone that’s close to what you want. Watch who they boost, follow them, and follow hashtags they use. If you see a topical server, check out the local feed to follow people. If it’s not a community you’re part of generally, initially listen more than engaging. Rinse, wash, repeat. In <checks date> about four months you’ll have a pretty rich feed. #feditips

Pilot: MAYDAY!

Air traffic control: What is the nature of your emergency?

Pilot: What? Oh, nothing, I just turned the page on the wall calendar I keep in the cockpit.

I'm thinking of tackling this drawing book next, committing to (as the book asks) 20 minutes a day for 30 days. Would anyone else want to join me?

@cheribaker Last year there was a student at our attached law school who walked to class in full Victorian costume. I've never met her, but I did once talk to the undergraduate student who goes to class with a pigeon on a leash.

In my post-PyCon traveling through southern Utah, I had to stop and enjoy some #Python.

@Pat @marcorobotics If he doesn't have notifications turned on, he might not see it for hours. If he does, his device would never stop screaming.

Maybe there's a way to set up notifications for only certain messages...

@sideshow_jim Is that the name of an app, or a literal airhorn?

One of the faculty in that building has pet rats. I'm sure we could attach tiny strips of paper to them and train them to scurry through ducts...

We have a computer lab manager whose office is in the bowels of a building where he gets no cell reception. We'd like a way to send him messages when something needs to be fixed in the lab.

What's a simple, free, platform-independent, non-corporate, internet-based messaging application?

I figure folks could do with this in their timeline...

@hannah I saw the same thing in a mall a few years ago. Kendama gangs overrunning our cities!

Preparing my popcorn for the moment two of these gangs have an epic throwdown.
