#BlackFriday is a trap.

It is designed to push your buttons and trigger your FOMO.

The idea is to make you buy more than you need, to keep enriching the already wealthy at the expense of our wounded planet.

You are so much more than a consumer.
Say No.
Exercise your willpower.
Buy Nothing.

Want to see more gender diversity in tech? The National Center for Women & Information Technology needs reviewers for their Aspirations in Computing High School Award, which "honors 9th-12th grade women, genderqueer, and non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions":

Interacted with someone named "Chantheavy" and now I want to start a Gregorian metal band.

@markuslatvala On a related note, I heard about an old console racing game that was ported to Windows. The physics was locked to the framerate, which was fine when all the consoles were identical -- but people with fast PCs found the game unplayable.

Portugal just ran on 100% renewables for six days in a row

For nearly a week, the country of 10 million met customer needs with wind, hydro and solar — a test run for operating the grid without fossil fuels.

@JensHannemann I think that's it. It turns out using OnTriggerStay instead does the trick.

Unity mystery:

1) In a new scene, create a cube. Give it scale 5,5,5, a transparent material, and make its BoxCollider a trigger.
2) Create a sphere inside the cube. Give it a RigidBody with no gravity.
3) Attach this script to the cube:
public class Hark : MonoBehaviour
{
private void OnCollisionStay(Collision other)
{
if (other.gameObject.name != "Ground")
{
Debug.Log(other.gameObject.name);
}
}
}
When run, shouldn't the cube detect the sphere inside it? Why doesn't it? How can I detect that?

Unity: Visual effects should be updated once per rendered frame (Update), but physics should be updated at a fixed rate (FixedUpdate), so the speed of the machine doesn't affect the speed of the game.

Also Unity: Collisions are detected per frame.

(Is this accurate?)

Cleaning out some files at the top level of my Google Drive. For many, the verdict is "this might be useful someday, but re-deriving it from first principles would be easier than finding it".

Dungeons and Dragons is a role-playing game that lets you live out such fantasies as:
• Having money
• Making close friends as an adult
• Travelling the world without crippling dept
• Being able to change the world
• Getting better at something with practice
• Getting 8 hours of sleep each night

@ZachWeinersmith *points at cheese and crackers you just bought from a vending machine* You gonna eat that?

Lately on my mind has been... horseshoe orbits. ARE THEY 4 REALZ?

These come up all the time in planetary science and I know IN THEORY how they work: 2 objects share an orbit (e.g. moons, or a planet & asteroid) and from the perspective of one, the other appears to move in a horseshoe, approaching and then making a U-turn.

LOOKS TOTS UNLIKELY

So I made a #blender3d animation to prove this, by the camera observing the planetary system and then chasing the planet to view from that perspective.

My husband and I don’t fight very often, but one thing we do fight about is how he calls aluminum foil "tin foil" and he's like "IT'S THE SAME THING!" and I’m like "bruh, they are completely different metals, so please go consult the periodic table I've hung over our bed."
