I thought I'd improve my household lighting by replacing burned out 60W incandescents with "100W" LED bulbs. This works for some fixtures, but not others, because the brighter LED bulbs are *larger*.

I've heard people suggest letting students try their hand at a typical problem on the first day of class. Should it be one easy enough for them to tackle or one challenging enough to demonstrate the complexity of the subject? Any suggestions for an algorithms class?
