@jk ... and if they're untied, they become danger noodles.
My students are laboring under the delusion that I have a plan. I'm basically running the same grift as the writers of Battlestar Galactica.
@Pat *does quick image search* Tempting, but the benefits might be outweighed by the trauma of seeing me show up dressed for The Hot Zone.
Hoping good hopes for the new round of boosters...
Given the chance to give anonymous feedback after the first day of class, a couple of students wrote they had trouble hearing me, what with the mask, HVAC, etc. I had IT get me a personal amplifier, which I'll try out next week.
Every gadget comes with gratuitous features, so this one is also an FM radio, recorder, etc. Fine, but what I really want at my belt is a sound board when I need a rimshot, crickets, sad trombone, Jeopardy! theme, Yakety Sax...

Anyone with experiences to share regarding "#linux Laptops", that are designed to work without driver issues etc.?
I've found brands like Slimbook, Tuxedo and System76.
Apart from the hard Tech-Sheet facts, what do you like/dislike about any of their devices?
Are there other producers out there?
Thanks #followerpower & #fediverse!
@cy@mstdn.io The bar loyalists may stand strong to the bitter end, but as most people get increasingly harassed or uncomfortable, they'll gradually move to other bars rather than put up with the drama.
The full sentence is "This also applies to games or content CREATED OR SHARED IN THE PIGSQUAD COMMUNITY." This doesn't sound like it applies to things you do completely on your own, but would cover (e.g.) one of their game jams.
Yes, diversity of opinions and approaches is good, but there's a difference between that and a pattern of abuse. The same groups tend to be on the receiving end of that abuse; PIGSquad is legitimately trying to protect them.
@cy@mstdn.io Okay, maybe not the group for you. Gardening? Birdwatching?
I don't fault PIGSquad for having a code of conduct. They want everyone (especially marginalized people) to feel welcome and safe, and they're trying to avoid the "Nazi bar problem": if you let Nazis into your bar, they'll drive everyone else away and pretty soon it'll become a Nazi bar.
@cy@mstdn.io If you're interested in game development, PIGSquad is also friendly:
Some of their meetings are back to in person; hopefully more soon.

Does GPT-3 know what it's like to be human? Yes, it turns out an internet-trained AI can indeed cite the universal human experiences of:
If we are to postulate that #surveillance #capitalism accounts for 20% of daily internet usage - ie network connections without us being aware and not related to what we are actually looking up - (ie looking up a recipe connects a billion times to #facebook #google #telemetry #tracking #advertising etc), then blocking all of this bullshit is not only a sensible #ethical and #privacy choice but an #environmental responsibility due to the cumulative reduction in electricity usage.
