If you haven't already, give yourself the gift of ditching grades as much as possible in your courses. Stop being adversarial with your students. Try trust in the new year. #ungrading
1. Donated platelets.
2. Majestic view of snowy Mt. Hood on the way home.
3. Our computing cluster is now using its GPUs properly.
If you haven't already, would strongly recommend pinning an introductory toot to your profile. If you have particular images or video or audio you want to feature, they can be attached to pinned toots.
Also, pinned toots are automatically "backfilled" so you never have a blank profile on any server.
To add a pinned toot:
1. Log in with a third party app or through your server's website
2. Go to the toot you want to pin
3. Click ⋯ and "pin on profile"
You can also pin several toots at once!
@QOTO List glitch: I removed someone from one of my lists, but their toots are still showing up in that list.

Teaching a #Python workshop?
When quizzing the room, avoid:
> What will this code do?
Instead try:
> What are the POSSIBLE things this code MIGHT do?
Followed by "which do you think Python picked?"
Starting with the space of possibilities is often less intimidating.
Hi there! This is ACM, the world's largest computing society. As you might have noticed, we have opened not only our official #Mastodon account but also our own #instance!
Please consider joining @mastodon.acm.org, a community for #computing researchers & practitioners to connect & exchange ideas with each other, whether you are an ACM member or not.

Meh. It looks like a standard "a bunch of kids solve the mystery of the previous generation" plot, with excessive helpings of "milk the franchise" and "have the star deliver deadpan, macabre one-liners that will look good in the trailer or become gifs".
Jenny Ortega does her job well, but the writers seem to be phoning it in. The roommate, especially, comes across as "young person written by an old person".
Nice to see Gwendoline Christie given an opportunity to try something new.
@ginnyhogan That's sort of the inverse of my approach. I learned long ago that people are going to laugh at me, but if I tell a joke first it looks like I planned it.
Python -> Pythonista
Rust -> Rustacean
Go -> Gopher
Any others? And how about:
R -> Rsonist
#python #rust #go #rstats #programming #ProgrammingLanguages
Using #vim is easy once you learn a few basic keybindings.

ᚻ, ᛄ, ᚳ and ᛚ - moving left, down, up, and right through celestial spheres
𐤄 and 𐤋 - switch deity to pantheon member to left or right
ᛄ - supplicate to chosen deity

@jalefkowit Twist: the fast food worker is Ed Wasser.
When I try to drag a file into the Project window of a JetBrains IDE (IntelliJ, PyCharm, etc.), I invariably get this message this first time. It always works the second time.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
1. Had the last class meeting of the year.
2. Only one student (across three classes) lived the dream of sleeping through their final presentation.
3. Grades for one class are turned in.
