We have launched our Near and Far campaign! I'm playing Eyim, @peterdrake chose Kiku.

Remarkable about Broken Plains for me:
(1) I won for the first time, probably because I completed my very own trade route for the first time.
(2) When you have a big stack of gems, reputation is a good investment.
(3) If you find yourself with a big stack of various resources, go ahead and take 4 advanced artifact cards at the General Store. You'll probably be able to afford one immediately.

Toothbrush holders, almost invariably, have holes for multiple brushes at the top and then no division whatsoever at the bottom. This means the brushes lean over at all angles, often entangling with each other so they're hard to extract.

@erica_sea55 I want to buy this and put it in the campus parking space marked "Reserved for Enterprise Vehicle".

Onward to E games!

Einfach Genial Knobelspass is a "game" only in the sense that you can be competitive about who completes each puzzle first. Since @peterdrake is a Go player, with decades of practice reading out life and death sequences, he always wins.

Still, I claimed a moral victory for (a) figuring out a few dependency tricks and (b) completing all the Level 1 puzzles with no hints.

So I have a machine, mainly for gaming. Lately, whenever I try to install a Steam game, I'm told that space is tight.

What's taking up all the space? I tried Settings > Storage, which tells me the 333 GB taken up by "Apps & features" dwarfs everything else.

I click on the arrow next to that to see the list of apps. Four of them take up a little under 12 GB together. The remaining 185 apps take up less than 1GB each. So that adds up to less than 197 GB. What's taking up the remaining 136 GB?

I mean, presumably it's "features", but is there anything I can get rid of?

Happy #BlackHistoryMonth !

I still haven't made it to Black history. I'm close! But I'm still on white US history. There's so much of it! It's everywhere!

Q: Why does it seem like Black folk don't contribute much to society or science or history? Most inventions are from Europeans? Why does it seem this way? Don't cancel me!

A: Racism. The lie of white supremacy requires that we pretend that white men are the only people that ever invented anything or contributed to society.

@katjost Our dog's huge ears are both intensely upright, even when she's asleep, but one of them flopped over when she was a puppy.

Hey Webster if you love words so much why don’t you Merriam

What an amazing study: "Parachute use to prevent death and major trauma when jumping from aircraft: randomized controlled trial"

"Results Parachute use did not significantly reduce death or major injury"

a) definitely read this, it's hilarious
b) it's poking pretty hard at the stance that medical trials require a stance of equipoise -- genuine uncertainty about which option is better

Beast Practices is the name of my novel about a business consulting firm full of werewolves.

There's some melting going on right now, but it's going to turn into a sheet of ice when the sun goes down.
