I'm going to play Successors (4th edition) this weekend, so I downloaded the rules.

They're 40 pages long and begin with a disclaimer that they're a reference, not a tutorial. "A better way to learn the game is to have someone teach you. Watch a video or two online if you can."

So I found the videos -- three parts. The first part, on victory conditions, is 20 minutes long.

This video was quite well done. The game promises to be a wild ride of territory-conquering, heir-assassinating, and corpse-stealing.

Everyday office work now requires the level of security protocols previously seen only in spy headquarters ... and it's clearly not sufficient.

Seriously, how many passwords have you entered today?

@roguehireling More broadly, it's an open problem how to make interesting games where we practice doing the things we'll actually need to do to solve the world's problems rather than practicing for the fantasy where we solve our problems with personal violence.

How can we make de-escalation, maintenance, communication, and preventing crises as exciting as stopping the countdown timer at the last second?

Deactivated my Nextdoor account. It's just useless and the UI may, astonishingly, be even worse than Facebook's.

We haven't been in the forest for a long time to feed the birds, the snow is too deep and too soft to walk on. We tried to walk in again today, just for a short walk.
Some birds followed us, like a Red-breasted Nuthatch and some Chickadees...

Played more AER Memories of Old. It appears that there are quests and a story arc; I've obtained one of the three items I need to save the world.

I was once again hit by a control mystery; if it was explained to me at some point, I blinked. Many locations silently can't be interacted with if you don't have your lantern in hand. Fortunately, I stumbled across the key (F) for toggling this.

A little-known fact about Mastodon is that when you move your account, it gets put on a truck and then shipped to the new server. Here, for instance, are users employing I-195 to move between servers.

Every Easter, my mom would hide my Easter basket and I’d run around the house looking for it.

It was usually somewhere pretty obvious like in the corner of a room or on a shelf, but I didn’t want my mom to know she was bad at hiding things, so I’d walk past it about twenty times to make her think it was a challenge.

I genuinely thought I was doing a nice thing, but now I think back on my poor mom watching her child walk past a gigantic Easter basket. Each time becoming more and more concerned that she had raised a complete idiot.

#Violet knows what the sounds of the linen closet opening and the bathtub faucet turning mean...

@eerko I don't think of *when* you score as an important feature of point salad -- just that there are many different things being counted up.
