@dangillmor Ironically, the URL you link to has one of them suspicious @ characters in it.

I couldn't convince ChatGPT that the capital of West Virginia is Huntington (it's not, it's Charleston), until I told it to check wv.gov (which of course it cannot do), which caused it to finally concede the point.

Consider this your periodic reminder that ChatGPT doesn't "think" anything but is just completing sentences with statistically-likely conclusions.

I mean yeah we can hang out but I’m gonna wear headphones

What could Google have been thinking when it started selling dot-zip top-level domain names. This is such a terrible idea that you have to wonder whether something beyond stupid is involved..

In any case, you should NEVER, EVER click on a URL that ends in .zip.

It's a good one so far :)

There are plenty of engine builders out there, where typically you get your engine up and running and then get to turn the crank once or twice before the game ends.

What if, instead, we had an engine maintainer?

Your economic engine would be up and running at the beginning of the game. The task is to maintain it by:

* Repairing or replacing components that wear out over time

* Performing preventive maintenance to prevent wear

* Fine-tuning the engine's efficiency

* Adapting the engine to a (relatively slowly) changing environment

* Occasionally recognizing that an entire multi-component part of your engine needs to be replaced. You'd want to cannibalize what you can to both avoid the expense of buying new things and the cost of disposing of waste; limited space means you do have to get rid of your waste.

Thoughts? Does it already exist?

The New York Times is known for their groundbreaking #dataviz but what I really admire is how they have refined the basics to an exquisite level.

Look at this simple bar #chart:

- Category labels in bars
- Dual tints in each bar
- Bold text for the two leaders
- Right alignment of values and their title
- Elegant fine horizontal lines
- Enlightening annotation
- Medium grey for source

So clear yet few achieve this level of polish.

@chezvoila Yes, a very nice chart!

What's the advantage of "dual tints"? I'm not familiar with that one.

@Toastie Thanks for this link!

I hadn't heard of the Oregon Capital Chronicle. It looks like a reasonable alternative to OregonLive.

There is a Mastodon account @ORCapChronicle, but it has never tooted.

A Republican #Oregon representative has voted in favor of gender-affirming care, after:

-Recognizing own ignorance
-Seeking the input of experts
-Seeking the input of impacted citizens
-Reading the World Professional Association for #Transgender Health's standards of care

“My concerns are lessened knowing medical providers have adopted and are adhering to these standards,” Conrad wrote.

@cheribaker Carla Kopp was going to name her company Okapi Games (sort of a play on her last name), but nobody seemed to know what an okapi was, so she just went with Weird Giraffe.

If this thing I'm working on is a 'puter, is the glow it gives off 'putrescence?
