Well the number of trolling hate based instances has just got too overwhelming for #QOTO to rely entierly on its users to suspend at this point. That said i dont want to force blocks on our user.
I am prioritizing sone sort of opt-out block system where we as admins can do server wide blocks but users can still opt out...
@LouisIngenthron Ah, I get it. Thanks!
@LouisIngenthron I've almost got it, but can you walk me through a situation where
Singleton != null && Singleton == this
has a different value from:
Singleton == this
@trinsec @trench Certainly casual games will be popular, but I expected more things that either (a) I'd at least heard of, (b) are associated with famous brands/franchises, or (c) don't have titles that sounds like development placeholders.
Of course, there are successful games that don't provide (c), like Untitled Goose Game.
@LouisIngenthron If this was already destroyed, could the Destroy method still run?
It's sort of a race condition, so I'm not sure how to set up a test.
@trench Are they legit? I mean, "Don't Starve: Pocket Edition", sure, but "Poppy Playtime Chapter 1"? "Cat Fishing Simulator"? Really?
I am once again asking where to find a list of top (e.g., most popular) Android games. Web searching is useless on this front: the results are either ads or multipage listicles with chatbot-quality text. Even the lists provided by Google Play are implausible -- I refuse to believe "Save the Guy: Funny Choice" is the #5 game.
@LouisIngenthron Good stuff -- thanks!
Two questions:
1) A "traditional" singleton would provide a static GetInstance method, and keep the constructor private, to prevent a second instance from ever being created. That won't work here because of the way Unity creates GameObjects (and their components), right?
2) In Destroy, why check if Singleton is null? If it's == this, we already know it isn't null ... right?
Pain point relieved: how to stop accidentally launching Samsung's bloatware when swiping left from the home screen of your Galaxy.
@LouisIngenthron Can you say more about properly implementing singletons? A web search reveals a deep rabbit hole on this, but all of them use static variables.
Tired of waiting for Unity to reload script assemblies every time you run your game? You can turn that off:
