1. Everyone was healthy enough to come to Thanksgiving I.
2. Catered food.
3. Playing games with the next generation.

This site makes me feel guilty about the fact I didn’t let mastodons on the Ark.

Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.

1. My classes are ready for Monday.
2. Posted an assignment.
3. Baked a couple of pies.

Made a couple of pies. (The pumpkin pie is done; the apple pie will go in the oven during dinner tomorrow.)

they put a christmas sweater on the t-rex at the national history museum in london and it's ridiculous and adorable

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.

Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.

If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.

If you want to see QOTO stick around you can email your objecttion here:

hello@joinmastodon.org

Feel free to CC me here: jeffrey.freeman@qoto.org

Please be respectful, we want to show them we are the good guys and not give them any reason to object.

We had a bit of wind last night. #Violet is befuddled by where all these leaves came from.

I'm not a data science professional. But as a consumer, if I was granted one wish related to data visualizations, it would be for people to stop using geographic maps to represent populations of people. People are not evenly distributed across those square miles!

One of my (many) 2023 plans is to add finishing touches to ThePythonCodingBook.com and make it available in some other format, too:

- ebook only
- self-published book
- published via a publisher

My preference is the latter but publishers shy away from beginners’ books…

I’d need to spend time carefully pitching to them why I think it’s different from other books. Not sure I can justify time to do that

More thinking needed

In the meantime, the content is all there for beginners to enjoy, and many have done just that

While it's not *emphasized* like on the birdsite, anyone who can see a toot can see who "favourited" (starred) it. This may make it suitable as a way of agreeing with someone else's toot (e.g., a reply to a question).

I think of it as equivalent to a nod.

I’m surprised I’m not seeing any active local Mastodon instances for the #PacificNorthwest / #Cascadia region. A lot of my Bay Area friends are enjoying sfba.social but I don’t see anything similar up here. What am I missing, #PNW folks? #seattle #vancouver #portland #bellingham #WashingtonState #BritishColumbia #Oregon

1. My Rage Against the Machine Learning shirt was appreciated.
2. Students in my first-year seminar are digging into techniques I didn't even teach them.
3. Wicked & Wise arrived.

Men say they want a “partner in crime” and then get all weird about it when you want to rob the Bellagio
